CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)
Every year more than half a million abused and neglected childen are in need of safe, permanent nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another. They have no family to call their own. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment, even prison as adults.
That's where CASA steps in. CASA was created to make sure the abuse and neglect these children suffered at home did not continue as abuse and neglect in the hands of the system.
As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for the chldren in court. The objective is that they be placed into safe and loving homes where they can thrive.

Supervised Visitation Program
Supervised visitation is a community service program designed to provide a safe and neutral enviornment where children may comfortably maintain (or re-establish) relationships with non-custodial parents, in situations involving physical, sexual, or substance abuse, whether alleged or confirmed, careful supervision of the contact between the child and the non-custodial parent is necessary.
Supervised visitation is contact between parent(s) and child(ren) that takes place in the presence of a third person. Under the direction of an experienced staff person, non-custodial parents may visit with their children in an environment that is child focused.

Drop-off Exchanges
The monitoring exchange program provides a neutral site for drop-off and pick-up allowing children to have a safe access to a non-custodial parent for visitation purposes. This service is for families where safe child access to the non-custodial parent is jeopardized by the inability of the parents to resolve their differences.
A secure, neutral site for exchange reduces the potential for animosity between the couple and limits the emotional effects upon children who need the opportunity to maintain attachment to both parents.

Supervised Phone Calls
In cases where distance precludes personal visits, Family & Children's Court Services will provide supervised calls with written documentation on conversation, reaction and behavior of the child during the phone call, when the method of contact is phone contact only.
Mediation
Mediation is a process by which two conflicting parties work toward an agreement with the assistance of a mediator. When seeking dissolution of marriage in NM, a couple that cannot agree on parenting plans for their children may be referred for mandatory mediation.
Mediation allows couples to find areas of agreement with both parties playing an equal role in coming to a decision.
