Whiz Kids Tutoring is a program that brings together volunteer tutors from churches to work with schools to help assist children that would benefit from a little extra help.
Whiz Kids enlists people who have a heart to help kids.. We train them, run background checks, and place them at a church site that will work with the school.
The school, through the teachers, identifies children that could benefit and signs them up. The school will also provide a liaison teacher to be at the site the time of the tutoring. This liaison teacher will work closely with each child's teacher to maximize the benefit of this time.
The tutoring time happens once a week and lasts one hour. The time varies from site to site but will be late afternoons or evenings. That time is followed by what is called club time (usually 30-40 minutes) of fun. This time includes a game, singing a song, a snack, and a short Bible story. Since this time has a religious component you will asked to sign a separate permission slip for club time to either allow your child to participate or not. If you choose to not allow them to join this time they will be returned home after the tutoring time. You will therefore need to sign two permission slips, one from the school and one from your child's tutor.
This program has been successful in helping kids in Denver for almost twenty years and we're excited to be able to bring this to Clovis. The Whiz Kids office is located at the Matt 25 Hope Center, 1200 Thornton and the phone number is 763-4400 should you have any questions. Please contact the Field Director, Steve Reshetar, at Matt 25
